The Sunday Star-Times – with sponsorship from Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand – is on the search for the Top 30 Accounting Firms in New Zealand.

Data is based on information supplied by firms who elect to participate. The rankings are based on a total revenue figure.

The survey also recognises firms at the forefront of their industry in a variety of areas including pro bono work, gender diversity and innovation.

To be eligible for Sunday Star-Times Top 30 Accounting Firms 2019, firms must answer some compulsory questions about the number of partners and total revenue from the last two financial years.

The results will be published in October 2019 in the Sunday Star-Times and on Stuff.

Entry requirements

• To be eligible for the Sunday Star-Times Top 30 Accounting Firms 2019, firms must answer some compulsory questions about the number of partners and total revenue from the last two financial years. Compulsory questions are marked in the online form with an asterisk (*). Firms who do not answer these compulsory questions will not be included in the ranking.

• Firms must be registered as a New Zealand business. If firms are a subsidiary of a multinational, firms should enter responses for their New Zealand offices ONLY.

• For Australian firms wishing to enter the Top 100 Accounting Firms Australia, there is a separate entry form which can be found here. Firms with offices in Australia and New Zealand must enter twice.

• Firms should enter information relevant at the beginning of the current financial year i.e. FY18/19, except where stated otherwise.

• Firms must complete the online entry form.

• There is no entry fee.

• Entries close on Friday 13 September 2019 at 5pm.

How will the information in the entry forms be used?
Stuff, with sponsorship from Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, will publish a list of the largest accounting firms in New Zealand with a range of other articles focusing on the accounting profession.

The Top 30 Accounting Firms 2019 list will be published in the Sunday Star-Times. Other content will be published in Stuff publications and websites.

When will it be published?
The Sunday Star-Times Top 30 Accounting Firms rankings, additional lists and content will be published in the first half of November 2019.

Will I be contacted regarding the information provided?
Stuff may phone or email the key contact for the entry form to verify entry form data, or for more information for stories to be published.

How can I review my answers after submission?
Once you have pressed ‘Submit’ the form can no longer be edited. Please check your answers carefully before pressing ‘Submit’. After your entry is submitted and the content has been reviewed, you will receive a copy of your entry via email. This will take up to 4 business days.

If you need to change any of your answers after submission, you will need to email Stuff using topaccountants@stuff.co.nz, highlight the response/s you wish to change, and wait for a reply. A Stuff representative will contact you to discuss next steps.

Definitions

Non-equity partner: Non-equity partners are engaged on a partnership agreement and receive a fixed-profit-share (or are fixed-drawings partners).

Salaried partner: Salaried partners receive their earnings by way of salary.

Graduate: A graduate is someone who has been hired directly from a course in 2019 e.g. university, technical course. Please note this is for recent graduates only, it does not refer to all employees in a firm with a university or technical qualification.

Intern: An intern is a student or trainee who works in order to gain work experience or satisfy requirements for a qualification. They are usually hired on a short-term basis, and may be paid or unpaid.

Chargebacks: "Chargebacks" or "disbursements" are expenses incurred as part of a firm’s advisory work that is passed on to clients at cost.

Pro bono: Pro bono services are defined as “services provided at less than commercially discounted rates”.
